KONY 2012, PART 2

IC ANSWERS BACK
         Temecula, CA – The organization was never about Jason Russell alone. It started with 3 young Wiseman who followed a star, Collin Powell, when he said there was a genocide going on in a distant land. Grabbing a camera they took off and the video ‘Rough Cut’ was born. Like the CEO of Invisible Children, I was mesmerized to a call to action immediately after screening it. Also, perhaps as one of the oldest IC members, I felt much like one of the two AK-47 toting adults you see in the film watching over the kids. However, in my usual Lois Lane with a penis fashion, I have had an embed’s POV. Today is no exception. After the jump, the just released Invisible Children KONY 2012, Part Duex
         And now, Invisible Children

Below are the representatives who 'crossed the aisle' to make this resolution possible.

Kony 2012 Resolutions (H.Res. 583/S.Res. 402)

In March 2012, two resolutions were introduced in Congress– led by Senators Chris Coons (D-DE) and Jim Inhofe (R-OK), and Representatives Jim McGovern (D-MA) and Ed Royce (R-CA). These resolutions (H.Res 538 and S. Res 402) condemn the crimes against humanity committed by Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), and call for the implementation of the policies advocated in the Kony 2012 campaign to enhance US support for regional efforts to bring LRA leaders to justice and protect civilians.  You can read the full text of the resolutions here and here, but in brief, the resolutions:
• Support the efforts of Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and other regional governments, as well as the African Union and United Nations, to end the threat posed by the LRA;
 • Support continued efforts by the United States to strengthen the capabilities of regional military forces deployed to protect civilians and pursue commanders of the LRA; as well as to enhance cooperation and cross-border efforts to increase civilian protection and provide assistance to populations affected by the LRA;
 • Call on the U.S. to utilize existing funds for ongoing programs to enhance mobility, intelligence, and logistical capabilities for partner forces engaged in efforts to protect civilians or remove Joseph Kony and his top commanders from the battlefield;
 • Call on the President to keep Congress fully informed of U.S. efforts and to work closely with Congress to identify and address critical gaps in efforts to counter the LRA.
