THAT’S MRS. MITTWIT FOR YA, ‘YOU PEOPLE’

Leona Helmsley - "Only the little people – [#youpeople] - pay taxes"

Temecula, CA - Ann Romney defended her husband’s decision to not release any additional tax records during an interview on Thursday morning, saying that “we’ve given all you people need to know” about her family’s financial records. I guess Ann Romney never saw or caught the ‘what do you mean you people’ scene in Tropic Thunder that happens between the Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. (in blackface), and the Brandon T. Jackson characters. Perhaps she was too busy being a stay-at-home mom, running the day-to-day management of a huge estate, servants, and the many extracurricular events that rich people put their kids into so those kids will understand that they aren’t you people.

The disparaging “you people” remark immediately sparked an outpouring of ‘hot button’ responses on Twitter, eventually leading the #YouPeople hashtag to become a U.S. trending topic. Twitter users upset with Ann Romney’s comments generally fell into one of two categories: those that believe the Romney family should release tax records because of their extraordinary wealth (Romney would be the richest man ever elected President), and those who took offense at the phrase “you people” being used, a phrase which has historically been used as an air to show elitist racism for over two hundred years.

Others rushed to Ann Romney’s defense, arguing the family should not have to release any more financial records and refuting claims that the “you people” phrase was intended as a hurtful comment, which is the usual excuse given when the phrase slips out. I guess the book of Mormon doesn’t the Book of James [KJV] which gives warning about the mightiest muscle on man, the tongue. Of course, Mormonism is still officially listed as a cult so that could be the reason behind the faux pas. The more the Romneys are in the spotlight, the more you can see the ‘cult factor’, that notion that you people are outside the ‘circle of trust’. Plus since knowing that Mitt straps his own beloved canine to the roof of the folks’ SUV like a modern day Clark Griswold for outings and no one in the family objects, you people should probably be glad you’re not in the circle.

Mitt Romney’s refusal to release additional tax records has become a talking point of the Obama campaign, which argues that Romney should be more transparent about his wealth to allow voters a better understanding of the Republican candidate. Recent reports have shown that Romney was involved with Bain Capital longer than he has previously admitted, and that he (legally) kept funds in offshore tax havens. The point that Mitt misses is that to have funds enough to store offshore means you made a shitload of money some way.
