Temecula: Car kills pedestrian crossing Rancho California Road, road closed for hours

Temecula, Ca - On Tuesday, July 16, 2013, officers from the Temecula Police Department responded to the intersection of Rancho California Road, east of Moraga Road, Temecula, regarding a reported traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle.

Upon the officers' arrival, along with other rescue personnel, they discovered a male in the roadway on Rancho California Road who was pronounced deceased on scene by medical personnel. Further investigation revealed the male, a 57-year-old resident of Temecula, was crossing Rancho California Road southbound, not in a crosswalk and was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Rancho California Road in the number one lane.


Several witnesses were located at the scene and assisted in the investigation. The driver of the vehicle was not injured and remained at the scene and was interview by investigating officers. At this time of the investigation, alcohol involvement is not suspected as a factor in this collision and the investigation is continuing.

The roadway was closed for approximately five hours while members of the Temecula Police Department's Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team conducted their investigation.
