Temecula, California - On Sunday, May 31, 2015, deputies assigned to the Temecula Department responded to the area of Old Town Front Street near 5th Street and learned that a suspect had assaulted a man and stolen his black Dodge Charger.
A few minutes later deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Perris Station received a call of a second carjacking on the northbound I-215 near McCall. Deputies learned that the vehicle taken in Temecula had continued north on the I-215 Freeway, but when the driver encountered heavy traffic in Menifee, he was forced to come to a stop near McCall Boulevard. He jumped out of the Charger, pulled the driver from a pick-up truck, and after assaulting him, fled in the pick-up.
A short time later, Deputies located the pick-up northbound on the I-215 freeway near Allesandro Blvd. The vehicle fled and the CHP joined the pursuit. The pursuit ended near the I-15/1-10 interchange in Ontario, where the driver abandoned the pick-up and fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended by CHP officers and a Riverside County Sheriff's K-9.
- The suspect was identified as Giorgio Armani Castanon-Baez, a 27-year-old Murrieta resident.
Further investigation revealed Baez, who was on parole, was under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of a knife and methamphetamine.
He will be charged with several felonies, including two counts of carjacking and evading arrest.
